The D-TE™ a simple yet effective solution developed to eliminate cracks and trailing edge opening from max chord to tip section by reinforcing the blades trailing edge. Thereby removing several root causes which could lead to the mentioned damages without adding significant weight to the blade.
The D-TE™ in the tip area can be used to prevent the detachment of the two shells due to lightning strikes. The use of D-TE™ for lightning damages addresses the tip opening issue of the wind turbine blade and provides a temporary repair solution for the mentioned damage. D-TE™ will positively affect the operation of your wind turbine as a trailing edger reinforcement:

How it worksThe D-TE™ increases the buckling capacity of the trailing edge of the blade by increasing the stiffness of the blade panels. The D-TE™ connects the two trailing edge panels, reducing breathing thereby eliminating crack development in the TE section of the blade from max chord to tip.
When lightning strikes the blade tip of a wind turbine, which is relatively thin and weak, significant damage can occur. Such damage can be so extensive that the turbine can no longer operate, and the turbine must be taken out of service so that the damaged blade can be repaired or replaced, resulting in increased costs and downtime. The most common scenario is the tip split opening due to a lightning strike. The D-TE™ connects the two shells, and by doing so, the impact of the lightning strike is reduced, and the risk of tip opening is significantly reduced so the turbine can continue operation until a full repair is performed. D-Tip™ can be utilized as an interim and a preventive solution. |
